Developmental education contributes to NCCC’s mission and purposes by helping the underprepared students to develop the skills and competencies needed to become better students and lifelong learners.

Program Outcomes are:
1. To prepare students for post secondary education
2. To provide a foundation for learning

Courses in Program:
Developmental education includes the following courses: Reading Proficiency, Fundamentals of Written Communications, Contemporary Math Concepts, Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra as well as Nursing Math Skills, Grammar and Writing for Speakers of Other Languages, and Listening and Reading for Bilingual Speakers. The Study and Test Taking Skills and Goal Setting courses also fall under developmental education.

Assessment methods:
Each course uses similar assessment methods, which includes but not limited to pre and post testing, Compass testing, chapter/unit tests, final exams. Each instructor completes an end-of-semester assessment for the college, using the college assessment form. Assessment of students missing class, being withdrawn from class or withdrawing from class is done by talking to the students and instructors.

Efforts to stay current in curriculum:
