Neosho County Community College was awarded a federal grant in the amount of $56,798 by the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) from the Carl D. Perkins Reserve Fund. The grant was awarded to fund efforts which address the needs of special populations and underserved groups of students in the area.

“We are extremely excited to receive this grant which will allow us to continue serving even more students,” said Dr. Sarah Robb, NCCC Vice President for Student Learning. “We are also grateful to KBOR for recognizing our Institution by awarding us this competitive grant.”

Awarded funds will be used to provide training to Career and Technical Education (CTE) Instructors and to purchase required tools and equipment.

The Automotive Technology program has a certain list of industry-standard equipment items which are required by the program’s accreditor. This grant will allow these tools to be provided to students free of charge in order to remove the financial barrier for entering the program.

Instructors will take a course titled “Teaching Strategies for English Language Learners,” which focuses on designing inclusive and supportive learning environments for students who are non-native English speakers.

Grant applications were considered based on the submitting institution’s plan for reducing or eliminating barriers to success for students who are members of special populations or have limited financial resources.

Funding is supported by The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) which provides nearly $1.4 billion annually for career and technical education (CTE) programs across the country.
